Jane, a maiden too bright for her time, must to find a husband before the season ends in order to obtain her mystery fortune. However, this is no little task! She has to not only establish a spotless reputation and learn how to function in high society in this new setting, but she also needs to be able to discern the several schemes that are being revealed to her.

Will Jane choose to live alone or will she meet a lifelong companion? If so, will he make a noble and benevolent heir? A reclusive yet crazily clever widower? Or perhaps a dishonest cop who wishes to enjoy life to the fullest?
